Default Login Problems

For anyone that doesn't hate me and wouldn't mind helping...

My login screen is incredibly slow, and after I type my un/pw in, my comp freezes for about 4 minutes then I get error 1001. This happens with EqEmu, EthQ, and Live as well. I talked to SOE, they told me to open ports 1023-xxxxx, so I did that. Still can't connect to any of the three. I tried patching and restoring backed up files, same thing happened. Does anyone know what's wrong and how to fix this problem? If anyone at all could please respond to my question, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

For live,your eqhost.txt should be:

Code:
[Registration Servers]
{
"eqlogin1.989studios.com:5999"
}
[Login Servers]
{
"eqlogin1.989studios.com:15900"
"eqlogin1.989studios.com:15901"
"eqlogin1.989studios.com:15902"
"eqlogin1.989studios.com:15903"
}
Can you ping eqlogin1.989studios.com ?

You may get the response

Code:
C:\Everquest>ping eqlogin1.989studios.com

Although your ISP may block ping due to recent worms/viruses.

If you run everquest.exe, does it connect to the live patchserver ?

Yep ping worked fine. Any solutions I can try? I have tried opening UDP ports 5997-5999 and still not working. Everquest.exe does connect to live, but whether im in EqEmu or not, it does the same thing.

well, what are system specs? May seem silly being how it was month ago now, but they did upgrade to dx9 being required. If ports are opened, ping works, specs up to date with required, I would say delete and fresh reinstall :-( may be fubar'd binaries somehow.

This is from a fresh reinstall btw.

System Specs:
Windows XP Home SP1
1.5 GHz Amd Athlon XP
320 MB SDRam
Nvidia Riva TNT 2
Soundblaster 16 PCI
DirectX 9.0b

Any other information needed?
