Can't create a character

I've gone through all the steps successfully of getting to the emu server character creation screen, but for some reason I can go through the steps of creating the character yet after I've chosen a name and clicked "next" to finish I return to the main char select screen without my newly created character. All i see is that newbie warrior guy standing there from before.

I even went to a different server that was up and I was actually successful at creating characters on that one. Went back but still didnt work on the Emu server. I even rebooted my PC, but to no avail.

I looked around for similar problems on this topic but couldnt find any. Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Then you didnt search hard enough...

Its not a client side issue, its server side, the people who run the server forgot to edit a few pieces of code to fix the character creation process. try it on some of the other servers, i had the same issue when i first put my server up, no one on my lan could make a character, after editing a few pieces of code it fixed itself.

The green leaf server character creation works, good legit server.
If your looking for a non-legit just try them all i have had varied results with them, there was one i got to work but the name of it escapes me atm. anyway try the other servers you will find one that works eventually.

thing is, my buddy went on the same server and could create characters so how could it be a non-client side issue if that were the case? do i have to actually go and edit anything in my eq directory to get it working?

You should not have to do anything but patching (after you completed the "how to play eqemu"-tutorial)

So that is kinda weird. Though i had the same problem with my game. And when i connected to for instance Green Leaf, it worked perfectly. So perhapps you and your friend had diffrent versions of the patch, you for instance he has the May 5 patch and you have one earlyer...

I dont know how a server react in the character creation screen if the server is full of players at the time. Like, if there are for instance
20 players on the server and the server only can handle 20 plp...you get the point. Though i doubt that is the issue though

I have the same problem where i cant make a new char. I've tried doing it on the dr3 versions didnt work. Tried the dr2 versions which i used to be able to use and it still didnt work. So i even tried the 5.6 versions where i used to be able to make a character just i couldnt play because of incompatability with my client version. Anyone know why this is (are people updating thier code but not the number for the version). Also will i be able to play as I think the last time i patched was in April.

I have had that problem using the Myra DB... But NO ONE could create a character on it...hmmmm.

Post your world.exe and zone.exe outputs from when you are trying to create the new char... It might give us a clue...

How do i show you my world.exe input? so i can post.

If you are using windows xp, just click on the little picture in the upper left corner of the dos window that has the output in it, then move your mouse over edit from the pop-up that you should see. Then click on select all. Repeat the process of bringing up the pop-up, this time after moving your mouse to edit, click on copy... Now all you have to do is paste this in your reply here....

I posted how he could copy the output of world.exe here, then I re-read the thread and realised that he doesn't seem to be running his own server, so deleted my post ...

Ahhh that WOULD present a problem trying to post his output hehe.

Then if he is able to log onto other servers, but not SOME, he is probably patched to a certain version that is NOT compatible to the server he is having problems logging onto (my guess)....

Aye, there was a patch where the CharCreateStruct was changed from 140 to 144 bytes that gave the symptoms that the original poster is having. The 5.7DR2 code was altered to fix it, but the server version was kept at 5.7DR2, so some 5.7DR2 servers may work, while others may not.

If my problem is the char select changing for 5.7 dr2 then is there a way i can fix that without needing the may 5th patch files?

What patch files do you have? Then we'll be able to tell you what server version you need.
