Default Grassroots EQ

Is it possible to play EQ starting at lvl one and lvling up the real way off mobs. Using Drawdes newest database for 3.0.0 is combat with low lvl monsters accurate or do they hit for too much/little damage. Also does this function in a way that would be enjoyable. I have a lame computer right now and cant play EQ, but was going to parents house for weekend wanted to know if it was worth it to take EQemu to thier comp and show my bro's give us something to do (they loved EQ but cant play).

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can level the normal way. But I wouldn't put much time into it because you never know when you account will be wiped for a new release. I did actually level a char to level 15 the "normal" way. the only real difference is that the mobs don't roam. and they always seem to drop everything they have on them. where as EQLive would drop only random items ect. I really play EQEmu to do the things I couldn't do in EQLive gotta love getting level 61 in 5 min. not to mention having all the GM items =p Also, expect to solo the whole time unless you have friends to play with.

True, true, but it kinda takes the wind out of the game like using cheat codes as soon as you get a new game. :( I personally like the idea of leveling the old fashioned way.

Default minilogin...

Well, if you can get the minilogin.exe to work (which I can't... still...) then you could run a full system file backup of your EQ files and EQEMu files and MySQL files and just run everything on your own system... you wouldn't have to upgrade, and you wouldn't have your account wiped every time there is a new release, so you could level normally and not worry about it. On the down side... you wouldn't be able to paly with other peple on the same server because minilogin only supports one account at a time (as far as I know this is still the case anyway)... als, you wouldn't get new features and bug fixes that are released with the newest version. But you could do it.

But I was just thinking... you can backup your MySQL database information... which includes information for any accounts and any characters that have existed on YOUR computer (i.e. your server as listed in the worldname parameter of the loginserver.ini file)... So, I could be wrong but I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to backup your account and character info from your SQL database before you update EQEMu and then update the new database with the old information. Of course, this only works if your characters are on YOUR computer, in your database, and I assume you would have to use the same username and password when you signup again at http://www.eqemu.net/login

Of course, all that could be simply the ramblings of an uncomprehending newbie.

I've tried playing EQ "properly" with EQEmu, starting at level 1 (the reason I first started doing my DB was to try and make the emulator a properly playable game) but have never managed to get a character higher than level 3!
What was the character you got to level 15, Shortlived? Did you summon any items or use any GM commands?

Lol how did you manage to play normally? Just started a level 1 rogue in freeport.

You try to pierce a snake but miss!
A snake bites YOU for 14 points of damage
You pierce a snake for 4 points of damage
A snake bites YOU for 14 points of damage
You have been slain by a snake!

Dont remember lvl 1 mobs hitting quite so hard

Are you running 3.0? I thought they fixed it so mobs didn't do max damage every hit.....

Also you might need/want to make sure your skills that you SHOULD have start at level 1 and not 0 (#setskill command)

To Fabtik - if you find or buy a few bits of armour (cloth or patchwork) then level-1 monsters will hit for noticeably less damage. AC seems to be very important.
Deathfist Pawns usually have cloth armour but they are level 2 I think.
I originally tried making level-1 things hit for about 1-5 damage but this meant that as soon as you had an AC better than about 25, you were virtually immune to their attacks.

So the equation used to figure out creature damage is not yet equal to that of EQ Live? Do you think the formula/equation is easy to figure out and implement? If so this is a very annoying glitch if your like me and want to lvl normally. Would be cool if someone from the Emu would comment~

Thanks

I think the Dev team is more interested in getting the server running 100% before they go into that. You need to have a good base to build from. I'm sure things will be running 100% in no time with the way the Dev team works! Props to you Dev team.
