Default Help getting started

I have been following the Play Guide to get started playing and i am getting stuck on step 5. Now, right-click that shortcut and select Properties. In the target box, you will see the path to the eqgame.exe file. We need to edit this so that it will pass an argument to that executable when the shortcut is launched. At the end of the text box (after any parenthases), add "patchme" (no quotes). Your target box should look similar to this:

"C:\Program Files\Everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme

When i try to edit the text in the target box i get this message telling me that the name is not valid and to make sure the path and file name are correct. what should i do?

It might be easiest to just create a new shortcut with the proper path instead of editing the existing shortcut.

I am assuming you are using xp, if I am wrong then completely ignore what I am about to say. Right click on the eqgame.exe, send to -> desktop. Right click on the newly created shortcut, enter patchme after the path, outside of the single quotes. That should do the trick.

Right click eqgame.exe in your EQ folder, go down to/select: create shortcut.

Then, edit it, and add patchme, and put your shortcut wherever you want it. Desktop or whatnot.

Just to follow up to give you a better understanding... what you are looking for here is the path to the actual file "eqgame.exe" (without quotes), on your hard drive. If you installed EQ Titanium in the default location then this statement:
Quote:

is incorrect... The proper path should be:
Code:
"C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme
Notice the Sony folder has been added...Open Windows Explorer and follow this path to verify that...

The quotation marks are there for the folder "Program Files". Notice the white-space in there? That is to ensure there are no issues with white-spaces... If you had the path (instead) of:
Code:
C:\Sony\Everquest\Eqgame.exe
Then you would NOT need the quotes because none of the folders have white-spaces in them.

Cheers, hope this helps some.

I followed you guys advise and got it to run. However, when i run it, (i have already been usin the Shards of Dalaya server) it takes me to the same login as the SoD. Is that what is supposed to happen? Is there a way to use SoD and EQemu at the same time?

i guess i should clarify what i mean by the last sentence. By having SoD enabled is it somehow affecting the shortcut i made for EQemu?

Two different EQ folders.
1. SoD folder with their modifications
2. Eqemu folder with only the Titanium CD install files.

send the eqgame.exe of each to the desktop.
Rename the one for SoD to something like 'SoD EQ' and the one for the EqEmu to something like 'EQEmu EQ', to help you keep track of which is which.

SoD uses a MUCH older client and is not currently capable of being used as a basis for the eqemu currently.

What they're saying is that if you intend on using both SoD and our versions here, your will need to sets of Everquest Installations.

The reason being is that SoD has you patch on EQ Live before you run their version of the game. Doing this and trying to play the EQEmu client out now will not work due to incompatibility between the two.

In ecessence, you will need two installs to play on both.....

SHARDS OF DALYA

Let's say that you install on Everquest to
Code:
C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest\SoD
This one will be the one that you run the Patcher on following SoD's instructions. After you get that done, right click on the shortcut to Everquest on your desktop, go to rename, and change it to say
Code:
Everquest SoD
EQEMU
Once that is done, you will need to install a 2nd Everquest. This time to
Code:
C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest\EqEmu
When this install finishes, you will not run the patcher, like you did on SoD's side.

When this is done, you need to go into the folder for EqEmu, find your eqhost.txt file and change it to reflect this.... (Just Copy and Paste)

Code:
[LoginServer]
Host=eqemulator.net:5998
Once that is done, go back to the icon on the desktop that still says Everquest and right click on it, then click properties. The very first text box that says

Code:
"C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest\EqEmu\Everquest.exe"
needs to be deleted and replaced with,

Code:
"C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest\EqEmu\eqgame.exe" patchme
When you have that done, you need to do the rename trick that you did earlier for the SoD shortcut, but this time make it say
Code:
Everquest EqEmu
Once that is done, clcik on the link and away you go. You will be duely impressed by the much nice setup here than over at SoD, but thats just my opinon.

p.s. Keep in mind that to use the EqEmu, you must be using the Titanium Install, nothing else, No multiple packs, No patched versions, ect... but the box that is purchased at the store, untainted.

Also this is assuming that you will be installing from scratch for both versions. If you plan to keep your SoD install, you will need to figure out how to isolate it so you know where it is vs. the install that your going to put on for EQEmu.

P.S.S. Most of this stuff was added for a newbie like some people I know. Most people can tell the difference between two installs, so If I offend anybody with my Complete Dummie approach, I do apoligize, but I break things down as much as I can to help everyone.

In a nutshell (because I'm in a good mood tonight, I finally got my server running ),
You need a clean install off a store-bought copy of Everquest Titianium edition. NOTHING else will work.
You then need to make a shortcut to the titanium install. Titanium default install is;
C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest\eqgame.exe, so you have to make your shortcut look like;
Quote:
"C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme
As they already stated above.
If you ran the normal everquest.exe that hooks up to Sony and patched, then you're screwed, and have to re-install.

Gratz there Angelox, I finally got mine fully going tonight. Been having trouble with the CVS of Peq, the Emu version, and the Mysql version. Crashes, bugs, ect... but tonight the only problem left is the clients timing out on the first attempt to login. Sure this is just a db error so I am so excited. FINALLY GOT STARTER ITEMS WORKING...... Woot!
