Default Odd Log Entries

I wonder if anyone can help me, after a bit of a sanity check. Been running my own EQ Server for a while. Using the Private Login program its basically me and a few friends.

Just lately I have been seeing the below more often. Can anyone please explain what that is and is it normal ? I have done a look up on the IP addresses and the originate from the US. Which is a bit odd as I am from the UK and every one that has access to my server is UK based.

Any help appreciated.

Those are telnet connections to your world server. You can disable them by setting telnet to disable in your TCP entry.

Code:
<tcp ip="127.0.0.1" port="1000" telnet="disable"/>

Thanks very much for the reply. Not so worried about disabling them was more of a check to see if there ok and normal if you see what I mean.

Been running a server for a few months now and only recently seen the above happening. Just had me a bit concerned.

But if is normal I will just ignore them.

Well, if you want people to connect to your server via telnet is it is normal. Due to some security concerns, many server operators disable telnet connections.

Since it sounds like you aren't quite sure what the telnet connection is for, enabling telnet allows persons to connect to your server without actually logging in through EverQuest. For example, if I had an account on your server and had set a telnet password for my account, I could connect via telnet and send messages to people, see who's online, and even kick people if my access level was high enough.
