client crashing before it opens.. need help

My game is crashing before it even opens with:

The only way to get into the game is to lower my screen resolution down significantly and retry opening the game. That seems to work, but the login screen is completely black with only the text boxes appearing Login, Options, Exit. The account/password area is completely black, I can't see any typing or anything. Somehow, I managed to get in by clicking around and imagining where the boxes would be. In any case, this isn't right.

Anybody know whats going on?

Computer specs:

core2quad extreme
680i mobo
(2) 8800ultras in SLI
windows XP+SP3
all updated drivers

Btw, once I was in-game, everything seemed playable, but I don't want to be in some weird 1600x900 desktop resolution with 1600x1200 in-game resolution while my desktop should be 1920x1200 etc. It's pretty screwy. I also tried to run EQW with my client but that crashed just the same

As a suggestion, check AndMetal's reply in this post at the bottom and adjust the values to match what you need. I had to tweak my eqclient.ini to get my video working smoothly as well. If you think your problem is video related and your drivers are up to date this may be the best way to fix it. Just BE SURE to make a copy of your original eqclient.ini file so if you mess it up you can always get back to where you started by copying it back.

i have been trying to get my wife's comp setup with eqemu, i know i have all the files right but every time we try to start it we get a error "The instruction at 0x02dcf0ce referenced memory at 0xfffffffc. The memory could not be read" i have reinstalled several times, and each time i get the same thing....?
