				 Lack of server list in-game
 Hello!
Is it stereotypical to put my first post in the support forum? lol..

Anyway, basically I followed all of the steps provided by the emu wiki. It all works fine up to the server list in-game. After reading the support FAQ I understand that since I live in student halls that the port could well be blocked. What should be my next step from here? Is it possible that if I ask at the desk they could some how allow that specific port through? Is there a way around using that port or a way around them blocking that port?

I appreciate that since this is my first post I'm asking a lot here, but I truly am very keen to be part of an Everquest community again.

Any help you could give me would be really appreciated.

 Hey,
What is the problem exactly? Are you trying to play on other EQEmu servers and can't see anything in the server list, or can't connect at all?

Make sure you have no firewall blocking the port, and please post your eqhost.txt file.

You can use a website like this one.http://www.canyouseeme.org/
Try to check if ports like 5998, 5999, 9000 are blocked. |

Well I can log in with my EQemu details fine, its when I get to the server list. It's just blank.
 My eqhost.txt files says

 '[LoginServer]
 Host=eqemulator.net:5999'

When I use canyouseeme.org and try the ports, it comes up with

'Error: I could not see your service on 31.205.58.37 on port (9000)
 Reason: Connection timed out'

All 3 ports come up with the same message.

 There is your issue.
Mine responds like this.

Code: Success: I can see your service on 108.161.93.106 on port (9000)
Your ISP is not blocking port 9000 Port 9000, is the world login, the other two are login ports.

Past that, then the zone ports would have to be open. |

AFAIK you should be using port 5998 to connect to the EQEmu login server not 5999.
It looks like something is in fact blocking those 3 ports though. If you have no firewall interfering with it then it should say "Reason: Connection refused".
Again, make sure you have no firewall blocking the ports.

Ah right ok. What should be my next step then to getting these ports un-blocked? Can specific ports be unblocked by the staff downstairs if I ask?
Sorry, I'm not particularly technically literate.

 Depends on rules and regulations.
Most of the time the answer is no. If they have them blocked, they are blocked for a reason.

Never hurts to ask, the worse they say is no.

Ah sorry didn't see your post Vexyl. I've turned off Kaspersky and windows firewall is always off. As far as I'm aware that is the only firewall-esque stuff I use. |

So are you trying to start your own server and connect to it with MiniLogin, or are you just trying to connect to the main EQEmu login server? |

You always have an options of tethering via cell phone or finding a public access point broadcasting in the area.
Not much would stop me from playing EQ |

I believe I am just trying to connect with the EQEmu login server.
Guess you're right Provo, will ask tomorrow then. :P

Could you try to change the port to 5998 and see if that works? |

Bah by the time I post more have come through.
 Provo

They sound very complicated for a technical simpleton such as myself to manage unfortunately.

Haha, it just gets on my nerves when things try to stop me from playing in the first place.

 Vexyl

Ok I'll give that a go and report back.

Well, keep in mind that services like canyouseeme are looking to see if the port is unblocked for unsolicited incoming connections. You can show as blocked on all of those ports and still play just fine on the emu. If you ask it to check port 80 it probably says blocked too, but you're here browsing the forums using that port.
If you're using a simple NAT then when you make the first outgoing connection it creates an entry in a table on your router that makes the packets coming back go to your machine.

That said, it is quite possible that your campus is blocking those incoming connections even if you've already made the outgoing connection, and the only way to know that is to ask the IT guys.
