Sounds like you are missing something like files?

Did you install EQ from scratch to play with the EQEMU or did you have a working EQ running before this?

Did you change all the files you were suppose too? Maybe you forgot to change the eqhosts.ini file?

Mostly it sounds like EQ isnt working for you... Are you able to play EQ normally if you change your EQhosts.ini back?

EQHost wont prevent that part.. it will prevent the log in part though.. heres what ide do.. reinstall ALL of EQ patch from freaking start to finish patch patch patch patch patch... THEN redu the eqhost file and reinstall EQW and you SHOULD be good to go

I had installed eq a while before i started using EQW, then I downloaded the eqw thing and when i tried to play i got that illegal operation stuff. I tried playing reg eq again and it didnt work after that eithar. I reinstalled eq and that tried again and i was still getting the error message.

When i did patch for the first time after re installing it, it seemed to be a pretty short patch ( just opening eq game and it doing the patch thing)

Is there a way to download all the patches? or am i just remembering incorrectly?

Are you trying to start up eq with the EQW? try without it. also.. like i said.. reinstall everything.. takes a few minutes but starting from scratch is an easy way to find out when and where you messed up.

I also get this message only when i try to set up a server on the emulator, every single time. Reg EQ will work, then I try and set server up, illigal operation. Don't go through the uninstall method of removing EQ, it won't work. For some reason you have to just delete your whole EQ folder, then re-install and start from scratch. If you had your characters set up how you like em (ie. chat colors) you might wanna back them up before deleting.
