Default Where did the original item DB come from?

Hi. I'm just starting to work on my own little eq emu world and just trying to get up to speed. I keep seeing posts about updated item DBs with new PoP items or certain items removed/added, etc. So where did we get our original item db that is in use? Is it a work in progress that has built the way that it is continuing now? or was there at some point, a way to snag it via patches or some such?

Hopefully this isn't a stupid question, working on getting the world-building aspect all inside my head so that I can be a *contributing* member of the community. (c:

Back history:
For the most part Item info was collected by players running either packetollector (EQEmu) or eqcollector (EthernalQuest) this came to about 10000 items, some were old data that had since changed. Some had corupted dat in em... In other words better tha nothing, but far from complete or perfect. Just prior to PoP being released EthernalQuest got a complete database of items from somewhere. This was about 27000 items, but didn't include PoP items. That is the data that the DB Addon items were made from. Now we are back to collecting items to fill in the missing PoP stuff. I'm sure EthernalQuest has a lot of updated stuff, but they havn't released a new DB for over 2 months

Bottom line pre PoP items all seem to be complete and accurate for pre PoP, and those came from the EthernalQuest DB post PoP items and updates to items since PoP was released are all via the packetcollector and eqcollector programs being run by EQ players and sending in the data.

Ah.. damn them and their greedy db keepin selves. I was assuming packet collector was a large contribution, but I know of at least one item (maybe five actually) that has not made it into the hands of a player, but somehow made it into this DB. Thats good to know, I will try to make a point of firing up PC and getting what I can, though I haven't really been playing actively since PoP came out, so don't have anything to offer from there. Anyway... thanks for the info and the quick response. (c:
