How I fixed my EQEmu 1017 and opcode errors

I tried many things, from deleting and reinstalling all my EQEmu and mysql programs and files to changing settings and databases for the emulator.

Problem: Getting 1017 error. Can't get to character creation screen.

Solution: What worked: I got rid of the 1017 error by changing all my servers from localhost to 127.0.0.1. I had changed all the files (Boot5zones.bat, LoginServer.ini, and eqhost.txt) except db.ini. I didn't think it mattered if that one had localhost. But after I changed it to 127.0.0.1 I got rid of the 1017 error right away.

Problem: Then I had a new problem. I couldn't get past the character selection screen. I was getting opcode errors and the zones where failing to load.

Solution: I fixed this by testing each database by deleting the database completly from mysql (drop database eq, creating a new eq database and installing each sql file all over again. After adding one database I would try logging in to see if that new database would make the zone fail. I discovered that two of the database files I had downloaded don't work for me. They are eq_044.sql and npcmov_alpha_0_0_3.sql. The one that worked was the worlddata1 set. But I had to delete the "starting_items" entries in the reloaddb.sql to keep my starting items (food, spells, etc).

Also remember to input the line
INSERT INTO account SET name='eqemu', password='eqemu', status=200;
or you will get errors about the username being wrong or get more 1017 errors (I did).

And I don't know if this makes a difference, but I edited the MiniLoginAccounts.ini to reflect my server (127.0.0.1), username and password.

I hope this information helps other people with the 1017 error or the opcode error. Thanks for help from those on this forum. Good luck to those of you still frustrated with problems.
