Hi
Hi I'm new to EQEmu and (dont laugh) don't quite understand something for setup. What I don't understand is the readme section of the website, Part 1 and under number 5. I have done all the things previous to this correctly (hopefully), but I'm not quite sure what is meant by this. If anyone could tell me or give me more in-depth details of the set-up process i would greatly appreciate it.

Hmm, my post didn't post...lets try this again.
I just took a look at section 1, #5 and there seems to be 2 #5's!
First #5:
Just copy that file into your EQ directory or edit the current eqhost.txt to look like the one on the readme.
Second #5:
The patchme method actually isn't explained, it should be...anyways, here it is:
cd \Program Files\EverQuest (or where you have it installed)
Then:
eqgame.exe patchme
This keeps EQ from running the EQLive patcher program and fixing everything back to EQLive eq when we just patched it to run with EQEmu.

The second #5 was the one i didnt get....ok ya laught at me, im semi-computer illiterate, can yall delve into a bit more detail plz?
And I got a question: What control do I have if i play on someone else's server? Can i still create items? Basically all i want out of EQEmu (and all i ever wanted outta EQ, but of course, Sony would never give it to me) is an Ikky monk with mad crazy HP, AC, and ATK, all skills and stats maxxed, buncha AA, and decked out in some items i myself have designed. Then i wanna be able to go into any zone i want (preferably Vex Thal, PoTime, Sleepers, etc, any zone id never get to see EVER in real EQ), spawn some stuff, and then have some fun. Yeah i know im really weird, but thats what I want, and if i cant get that outta EQEmu, then i'm not gonna waste my time.
Don't wanna sound hostile or anything, but just wanna find out if i can actually do these things on someone else's server, cuz, in my opinion, that sure would kick @**!

I wasn't laughing at you in any way, you actually found a problem in the readme.
As far as the servers go, they vary from legit type servers which are much like EQLive to the wild ones where you can do just about anything you want...including what you mentioned. If you want, you can even create your own server to play on and do -anything- you want. Keep in mind that EQEmu is NOT a replacement for EQLive, stuff is missing/broken but getting better everyday. For instance, I'm not sure Vex Thal is even working...but you could go into many other zones and create just about any mob you want to fight.
I guess my answer is: mostly, it depends...go look around and see if you find a fit.

ya = yeah
Didn't mean to say u yourself were laughing at me but i'm sure there was someone out there on the boards who fell off their seat when they saw i cant figure out how to run EQEmu. But hey that's fine hehe
I also tried to create my own server, but, of course, ran into a problem there too. I could not find any file named db.sql....np tho i dont think id start running my own server until i check out EQEmu from someone else's and kinda get a feel for it. If i ever do decide to run my own server, I'd get a friend of mine to set it up, someone who actually knows what they r doing heh.

Yes.. The C drive..
Find a web tutorial on DOS, there are tons of them out there... These are very basic Operating systems instructions, it will be for your benefit to learn a little about DOS, rather than us trying to walk you through it.
Its very simple, just find a tutorial and I guantee it won't take you more than 10-15 minutes of reading .

For this part, I am using C:\Program Files\Everquest as my directory:
First, go to Start -> Run, type in cmd (or command if that don't work). DOS should start up. Its probably at your desktop, so type cd.. <enter> until it gets down to just c:\, type in cd "program files" <enter>, type cd everquest <enter> It is now in your EQ directory (change the directories if yours is differant). You need the quotes for "Program Files" other wise it won't find the directory, don't need quotes for everquest. Then type in: eqgame.exe patchme , that will start up EverQuest without running the patch.
*edit* there are faster ways, but this is just the way I like doing it for some reason, I seem to get "directory not found" or something when I try running it the other ways, not sure why.

For your directory it should be:
cd "C:\Program Files\EverQuest"
eqgame.exe patchme
Perhaps you are typing:
cd C:\"Program Files"\EverQuest?
eqgame.exe patchme

I type it like the first way, but you gotta understand that my computer is sooo messed up, lol, its over 4 years old (5?) and I think its going to break down anytime. Blue screen errors left and right, lol. I have 320ram and i still get the error that I am out of memory just by running Admin and mySQL, not all the time, but sometimes, hehe.
