Default createsurface (primary) failed! [88760091]

wtf is this error I keep getting. I load up eqw and I get the message box with the policy crap in it. I click I accept and it gives me this error

createsurface (primary) failed! [88760091]

could someone please tell me what to do to fix this problem. Or what all I need to do to get this program up and running.

Make sure you have the newest version of EQW. There was a 2.2 version they broke fairly quickly, then he released a 2.21 for the new dx version from Verant. If you are using 2.21, you can always try reinstalling DX8.1

Default Hmm

make sure eq and desktop are both in 16bit or maybe 32bit although when i have them both set in 32bit it doesnt work.. i had same prob and i made sure that they were both in 16bit sure enough desktop switched back to 32bit somehow anyhow i fixed it =)
