Default Okay, so...

I was wondering why some people are interested in a legitmate EQEMU experience? I would think that being able to instantly become level 65 with awesome equipment would be one of the many perks of playing EQEMU. What's the difference between Legit EQEMU and just playing on a live server (Besides paying, of course...)? I do understand more imaginative guides who would put on better events , but I don't really see any other reason. I was interested in playing EQEMU to be able to solo anything I wanted...

So, why do you like legit EQEMU?

I like playing Legit, I just don't like lvling to 65 and getting the best gear, no point in playing. Thats just my opinion though. I want to earn what I get.

Some people have played EQ Live for several years and are 'burnt out' so to speak. Some of the legit servers on EQEmu are customized with all new content. It's like an entirely different game. Not to mention EQEmu is free.

Personally, I like having the ability of playing a game that I've already paid for, without bankrupting myself. As a busy person, it would take a long time to get to lvl 65 (I've not made it there yet!) and see all the game has to offer.

On the development side, it's quite challenging to replicate a long established game world with the size and complexity of EQ. The sense of achievement will be worth the effort.

Besides, when all is said and done, if you're running the server... you can have both! :P

I would ask the opposite... Why would anyone be interested in playing in a non legimate game, where you can summon whatever you want , go whereever you want, do anything, and not have any rules to constrict you.

What fun would chess be if there were no rules.. You just set the pieces on the board, then moved any piece in any direction you wanted , or just knocked pieces off the board. It would be akin to a gorilla trying to play chess. Playing without regard to the finesse and structure of the rules. You don't need intellect and tactics when you can overpower anything by simply summoning a better weapon or stronger armor. The challenge in playing a game and enjoying it is in beating it with its own rules.

Reminds me of the old AD&D addages about the
True Roleplayers vs. The Monty Hall gamers.

legimate players are roleplayers, they play for the experience, the excitement, and true sense of accomplishment in advancement.

Then, there are those that just want to show their l33tness, or goof off. I'm not downing those, if thats what you want to do, thats fine. I just don't see the fun in it.

My 2 cents.

Default I agree with Trump on this one

I still maintain 2 EQLive accounts so it's not like it's the paying that's the issue. Personally I just want to log on with a few friends and hang out and fight stuff.

But we all want a sense of accomplishments. We all like getting that shiny new sword that we were saving for or finally get that new spell rank. Doing it all up front just limits the time of enjoyment we get out of it. To be honest I found it fun for about an hour.

My friends haven't invested the time into EQ that I have so being able to see the high end content IS something they are looking forward to doing, but doing it with toons just instantly created for it doens't achieve the involvement that you get with a toon you've nurtured from level 1.

That being said I have no interest in Forcing everyone to group or making the levleling such a chore.

Why can't we have the best of both worlds? I love the legitimite expierience...but there are also times when I want to just flash bang, and your dead. Thats the beauty of EQEmu...your only limited by your imagination. You can do what you want with your own server.
