Default what is the "patchme" method

Can someone please help.
Every time i run the regular EQ Boot / patch file it over writes the EQHOST.txt and the EQLSCLIENT.ini files i just replaced forcining me to re-copy them each time. Can someone please tell me how to avoid having to do this each time i want to play.
Also, does it matter which server i use because i can't seem to get on to ANY of them.
I'm new to EQEMU and i HAVE looked in the forums for these answers *sigh*
thank you

Look at the guid for how to play in the tutorials forum. You need to make a new shortcut and make sure ti points to eqgame.exe and not everquest.exe and put patchme after it. And set your eqhost.txt and eqclient.ini to read only so that the game can't overwrite them. It does matter what servers you use, only 5.7 DR 4 servers are compatible with the latest patch.
