EQEMu 5.7-DR6 is 2 patches behind Live at the moment. No, the latest patch or any fluxation of a fresh install is not compatible with any version of EQEMu.

Im making a server shortly for me and a some friends...if i have them to continue to backup every version of EQ as live continues to update we should eventually have a match between server/client versions correct?

Only once the servers get updated. And when that happens they will be compatible with whatever live patch is currently out until sony releases another one.

Yes you can. But you need a compiler to do anything with it.
