Default 1017 Error While Trying to Join My Server

Hello,

Despite my efforts to get my own server up and running, I keep running into the 1017 error while trying to connect to it from the server select screen.

I have my Netgear Websafe router forwarding ports 9000, and 7995-7999 to the local server 192.168.0.2.

I am running ME and am using EQW.

db.ini:

# READ README.TXT!

[Database]
host=localhost
user=t******
password=*****
database=eq

### --- This file tells world.exe what computer mySQL is on. Host should
### --- be left as localhost unless mysql is
### --- on a differant computer than world.exe.

Boot5Zones:

REM: ****Read this first!!!****

REM: This file requires your real IP in the place of "YourIP" when you are connecting
REM: To the EQEmu Loginserver.

REM: When you are using minilogin, Replace all IP Addresses to say 127.0.0.1

REM: If you still get errors try using localhost instead of 127.0.0.1

REM: zone9x.exe is for use with Windows 98 and ME only.
REM: If you are running Windows NT/2000 or XP use ZoneNT.exe

REM:--------------Start-----------------------

@echo off
start zone9x . myip 7995 127.0.0.1
start zone9x . myip 7996 127.0.0.1
start zone9x . myip 7997 127.0.0.1
start zone9x . myip 7998 127.0.0.1
start zone9x . myip 7999 127.0.0.1
exit
cls

REM:---------------END------------------------

### --- This file tells world.exe what loginserver to connect to.
### --- do not add an account and password unless a EQEmu Dev member has created an account for you.
### --- adding an account and password only grants the server a green name and is not needed.

# READ README.TXT

LoginServer:

[LoginServer]
loginserver=eqlogin.eqemu.org
worldname=SarTest
locked=false
account=
password=
worldaddress=myip
loginport=5999

For privacy sake myip = my global IP in all cases.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

From Active User list..
Quote:
JasonC EQ EMu Main Index 02:51 PM pcp01379000pcs.selrsv01.pa.comcast.net
Hows that for privacy? =P

btw /dns on mirc says this.. Resolved 68.81.164.242 to pcp01379000pcs.selrsv01.pa.comcast.net

Posting the IP youre using in loginserver.ini and in the batfile helps me understand what you were trying to do.. some people use 192.* and i cant yell at them unless i know what thay are doing.

Don't have much of a choice in using the router I'm afraid.

Yes, the IP you posted is the same one I'm using in Boot5Zones and LoginServer if that helps.

And I know how to configure my router. I just need someone to tell me what to configure it *for*. I thought opening up the aforementioned ports would do the trick.

Thanks. . .

First make sure your server is starting fine without any errors!

If you don't understand what I am talking about below, don't try it till you do! Don't do more than you need to for it to work.
Regarding the router with NAT, you need to port foward 9000 7995-7999 to your servers LAN IP (192.* address usually) It also may help to set up your host file to resolve your internet IP to 127.0.0.1 on your server

i cant help with routers so this is my last reply in this post (unless you unplug it lol). all i can tell you is make sure firewall is off and set up the router correctly =P

Other than that your ini settings look fine and no other reason it shouldn't work.

From your second post there... looks like world.exe is connectiong to eqlogin.eqeqmu.org just fine. Also looks like your zone9x.exe is working.

We be in routerz vill now.

Any way from the fact that your first post acctually looked intellagible (real word Honest) It seems that it is coming down to a syntax thing in your router. See what tools are availiable in that router to see if your port forwarding is working. Also make sure what your trying in your router is doing what your expecting.

As all you need to do is point all packets with a destination IP of your WAN and Port 9000, 7995-7999 to the Ip of your server and the coresponding port.

Also heads up for any personal Firewall crap you may have running. If in dought... shut it down to test.

Also try to get the minilogin working just for that warm fuzzy feeling of seeing it work.

Thanks for the responses.

My router has a web based option for port forwarding..it's basically a fill in the blank kinda deal so it's difficult to screw anything up syntax wise. I'll try telneting in later to poke around the inner workings of the router and hopefully not hose it in the process.

Take care.

Don't forget to reboot your router, changes don't take affect on a lot of them till you do.

Post a screenshot of your router's port fowarding page if it still won't work.
