Cant find world.exe
Looked in search but i didnt find any direct answer to my question. I downloaded 5.8 source from sourceforge and i cant find world.exe. thanks for any help

Thats because it's sourcecode.
You have to compile it.

You are not supposed to mess with the source releases unless you know how to program and or have a c++ compiler. You won't get many answers from here.
Download the binaries, search around you'll find them.

Sorry, not to be rude, but if you don't know what a source code is, you shouldn't be running a server. I would recommend trying Scorpious2k to play on, instead of running one.

ask yourself these questions before you decide to run a server
1. What is a compiler?
2. Do you know how to use a compiler?
3. What is a source code?
4. What is mysql?
5. Do you know the basics of mysql?
those are just a few thing that you should know those things before running a sever

You dont need world.exe to play on other servers, you see. Besides if you patched to live, you cant play anymore right now.

Okay, i have played on other servers and i Can currently play on them. I have to copies of EQ one for Emu and one for Live. I want to run my own server. So I need to know how to compile world.exe. Just help me out. If i realize its not for me then ill just give up on making my own server. Thank you, hopefully someone will Answer my question and not tell me i shouldnt run a server.

first you have to have a compiler program
examples: GNU, Visual C++...lots more
second: open up the main workspace for one of the files you want to compile. if you wanted to compile world.exe, you would open the main workspace for world.exe...and so on with the other .exe files...
third: go to build or whatever and go down the list till you see compile.
fourth: watch it compile
very crude instructions but you should be able to figure it out from this

I know you dont want to compile the file you just want to run a server, but i'll tell you now you will not find an exe now-a-days unless you specificaly ask someone to compile one for you, and most people have some custom code they dont want you to have good luck with that, and good luck with your server you'll need to learn alot before you'll even get it up, the whole process can be complicated for someone who hasent been working with it for awhile.
