A couple questions about running my own server

I'm currently trying to run a server called "Fennin Ro (for those of us who got away)".

I'm having problems though. Alot of the time my computer locks after logging out of the server (or any server for that matter) and my db becomes damaged and no longer works. Also, I was wondering how some of you Server-Ops kept your servers up for so long? Your probably running them on linux boxes, but any suggestions for those of us who don't have that luxury?

I guess my real question is, and being that i have no idea how to program, can I somehow output my db to a sql file so that after i modify it some, I can save it to this file, and if my computer crashes again, I can just load the saved file up and not lose a step?

I probably made no sense, but any help is appreciated,
