Default Some Questions...

Heyas im pretty new here and i have some questions...

1. CFG : When i try to save CFG files it don't seems to save all datas. Sometimes i only get a file.cfg with Sky Fog etc. and sometimes only with the Safeloc. The files wich came with EQEMU are correct and they have the Header Informations and the Safeloc. Is there a way to fix that? Also the files in EQEMU are 370bytes size my own are all 342 bytes

2. Zones and Zonelines:

Is it possible in anyway to create Zonelines yet? Im working on ym own world right now and i would like for an example to add a Zoneline at the temple in Growthplane to Vexthal Entrance. If there is no programm or comamnd out yet for taht would be nice if someone works on it could be very helpful soecialy to connect planes via exits.

3. Pathing and moveable NPC's:

Is there any ETA when mobs will eb able to move? The world is pretty lifeless without movement. Also the Mobs, once agroed run as fast as you run and will always kill you. Seems like warping.

4. Databases:

Are people working on a worlddatabase, based on EQLIVE?
Maybe combine the current Datbases to one good Database?
And maybe also clean teh account tables in this databases. There are some odd loginnames in there

5. General:

I like this software and your work. And the people who are wille d to help. But it would be nice when some of you experts and mega intelegent programmers could be more friendly to newbies. Some of us down't even know what DOS is at all etc but many want to play Everquest with EQEMU. So just try to be friendly i try it too... No need to be rude.

Thats it,

have fun

1. Not sure..

2. Yes, zonelines are in. Many work pretty well in Drawde's database..

3. There are no ETA's in the project. It will get in when it gets there.

4. There is a whole forum thread dedicated to that topic. You might be surprised what you find.

5. Well, as most of the frustration comes from people who don't read before they start posting (see answer 4, I could have made that one much less friendly), I'd say most handle it pretty well.
Also, since you are getting a free product, I wouldnt gripe too much about the support until you are writing out paychecks.
Hogie promises to be 30% less an asshole if you donate 100$ or more to his paypal account. I will similiarly set up a paypal account if you would like an 'asshole free' support contract.

Kinda reminds me of the scene from Time Bandits where the peasants are standing in line to get loot from Robin Hood. Each time he gives one something, one of the merry men slugs them in the jaw...

Yes, we're getting rude, but I believe this is what happens anytime a project is swamped with people who instead of offering useful support and help for a project, flood it with PLZZZZ HELP requests when the answer sits at their feet but they refuse to use the available resources. I see ALOT less posts where people are trying to help add to the EMU, but are just posting 10 times answered questions. Go read the showeq forums, its been around alot longer, and can be MUCH ruder..lol..

Look I don't have a problem helping people and neither do the other helpers around the boards and on chats. The problem we have is people refuse to RTFM. It is that simple or they are trying to dive into something that they have no clue about. MySQL, C++, VB, DB files... are all things that are new and most people just want a quick and dirty install. It doesn't work like that. It probably never will. So take the time and read the readme and then check the forums and use the SEARCH function. It is there. Almost all questions are. As for your questions here is what I know.

1. Lyenu said that she is having problems with CFG files. So not sure about that.

2. Talked to the devs yesterday about this and found that you cannot change the actual zonelines through RAW Zone Points but you can change the zone you zone into. For example you want to zone from Halas to Qeynos without hitting the other zones you can just change the target zone in Zone Points to go to qeynos instead of everfrost.

3. It is not at the top of the todo list at this time.

4. Yes people are working on several databases. I myself am not interested in EQLive but working on my own worlds. Not even close to EQLive.

5. Answer is above. I do not want payment though just the common sense that the people here that are helping do have lives outside of the emu and are doing this out of the goodness(if there is any left) of their heart.

The rudeness level hasn't gone unnoticed. We literaly get tired of anwsering the same question 30 -50 times, and it shows :( Look at how many post shawn has made, and to a lesser extent me. And that is with lots of others helping out also.

[RANT]

I think theclaus is right, people are expecting a clean and simple setup of mysql, MS C++, and the emu without thinking. If you don't know dos, why are you trying to setup the emu and mysql without learning a little about dos?

The readme provides pretty good instructions, even if you don't know what your doing. But if anything goes wrong, misunderstood, or is different on a users computer... They are lost and then support involves teaching them how to use mysql, dos, and windows programs...

Ahh I feel a little better

Kudos Clause, on a civil answer that gently abases the user, but still answers the questions...

Default Some Questions...

As for me i know basic stuff about DOS. I read this forum regulary and the readmes as well and not only one time...

I ask when i need to ask.

And i dont waste time in reading stuff wich i dont understand like 10 hours so i visit the chat and hope for answerwes there. Dont throw all n00bs in one cup...

Some instructions still arent written good enough for total n00bs.

I have a lot of questions, im always thankful and if i know that stuff i will try to help in future as well. Im not one of those guys who come along cause eqemu is cool and disapear when i got what i want...

Some of you are good prgrammers knowing the shit but you shouldnt loose thinking about how it is if you are not a good programmer or just dont do stuff like configuring this EQEMu and other tools often.

Thats it, be social even if you got knowledge.

PS: I can't understand why NPC Movement is down on the to do list. In my opinions its one of the most important things beside mob spawning.

Default Sony/Verant

Sony/Verant make about 4 million a month from EQ

And they still have zones where NPC movement is all SCREWED to hell.

4 million dollars a month - and they have BUGS

These guys ARE NOT hacking into verant and downloading their source code.

They are writing all EQs features by hand and from scratch, designing formulas themselves, providing functionality by creating there own version.

And they are making $ZERO dollars a month for doing it.

Arcalyn.. your profit projection may be incorrect.

they still has to pay for the traffic ( with eq the sent data is well over file servers ) the paychecks ( what? ya think they work for free? emu people do and i thank then but verent is a biz with employees. )

they may still have great profitability however.

is that 4 mil a month AFTER bills or before bills? makes a major difference.

Default Just a rough guess

Staff = $50/h * 40/hs * 52weeks = 105,000/year *
numbers of employees let guess at 50 = 5,200,000/year/salary
*** And I highly doubt all 50 staff was making 50/h which would allow for more employees.

Initial Server Cost = $50,000 per server (wild guess) *
number of servers(45) = $2,250,000
*** Probably over-kill on server costs but for example it'll do.

Bandwidth = a T1 line is a meager $1,000 dollars a month.....so.....a OC192c/STM64 cannot be TOO expensive =
Lets guess at $1,000,000/month again probably way over-shot!

19,450,000 1st year cost /
following years -( 17,200,000 )- * 3 years = 51,600,000
*we'll keep salary same, even though EQlive staff would be greatly downsized, to cover hidden costs....electricity & misc.

200,000 people * $45/orig EQ software = 9,000,000
250,000 people * $20/Kunark SW = 5,000,000
300,000 people * $20/SoV SW = 6,000,000
350,000 people * $30/Luclin = 10,500,000
350,000 people * $10/month = 3,500,000/42,000,000 per year.

So.................

3 year cost of operations approx......................$51,600,000
3 year income of sources approx......................$72,500,000
___________
NET GAIN for Sony/Verant $20,900,000

This doesn't factor into account stock investors-to-dividends paidout. So believe ME if they can say they had to spend X amount of dollars on company cars & such reducing total NET GAIN so as NOT to look TOO profittable, there-by causing investors to cash in their stocks while prices are high which would be a HUGE expensive, they will do it.

.............Then EQ2 hits the streets........

***New salaries 25/h ----> Few Veterans to guide lower paid new recruits/grunt workers/intern artists/new grad students

***Reduced server costs.

***Any continued EQ players = 100% profittability.

***EVERYONE becomes a NEW customer with EQ2. $45+ SW

***Stage already set for 14/month cost.

***New propietary 3Dengine, which can be re-sold to lessor companies a year after game release.(becomes old tech)

***Bandwidth costs remain same. Infantry helping pay for it.

***Projected DUAL(EQ & EQ2) account holders.....
minimum 28/month from them.

***They will estimate HUGE profits, there by generating more stock investors(more money to play with), using EQs success record to lure investors.

***FRESH meat.....those that had older sibblings playin EQ will now be old enough to play and do well them selves...also...an 8 year old in 1998 will be 14 in 2004. 12-20 optimum addiction age.

==BOWS to the Money Gods at Sony/Verant==

ps. This whole thing shoulda been in another section, sorry guys.
