Default Not sure what is the problem help please

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me with this. My problem is that my game screen is too dark to see anything except the spell effects. All of the info boxes are visible and readable but the main game view is all but blacked out. I don't know if this is a patch problem or what. Also when I leave Kaladim for Butcherblock I cannot move and the map shows nothing available. Inside Kal the map shows everything and I can move all through there by following the map.
I am assuming that since I can create a char. and enter the game I have the server configured correctly. I am using the velious beta database.
Any help I can get is most appreciated.
Thanx John.

No please do insult it, that is a valid question. Yes that was the first thing I tried after getting into the game. It brightens up all the info windows but does nothing for the actual game screen. Plus I have the lack of Butcherblock when I zone out to it. Not sure about any other zones.

This time when I logged in I got this message. "Your xml files are not compatible with current everquest files, some windows may not perform correctly.
Use /loadskin Default 1 to load the default skin." I tried it and it did nothing. Maybe this additional info can be of some help in assisting me with this problem.

Are you running Win98 or Win98se? If so I think the black screen is a common problem. I tried that last week and had a black screen..I noticed in the most recent patch that SOE mentioned an issue like that and that it was fixed so It wont be fixed for eqemu yet..
For the XML error..Did you use system restore at all? If so then just ignore the error but you wont be able to use the Merchant windows..I get that same error now since I used system restore to play eqemu after I foolishly patched.

No I am using Windows xp pro and did not use restore. Iam using everquest platinum and I am not sure but I believe the pre-dec. 15 patch everything was a fresh install of the game and server and database files.
