Default All kinds of patcher problems

I've been trying to get onto EQemu all day and every time I try to open the patcher I get an error, sometimes it says "cannot connect to Patch Server" other times it says "Error 70 Permission denied" and when I'm really lucky I get the patcher to open and it says "Run-time error 53 file not found" Somebody please help me, I have Windows 98 and I've already deleted and reloaded all the EQ and EQemu stuff, including the Mdac 2.7 SP1, EQemu Patcher: 1.0.1, and EQW232, but still no luck. And help would be greatly appreciated.

I have this exact same problem and so do a lot of people, I am not sure what to do at all and neither does anyone else. You have any ideas?

Default hmmm

I just noticed something odd when I tried to open the patcher, in red text it said "missing file discard.log" and under that it said "autodownloading in 5 seconds, but then good old error 53 pops up again. Could that discard.log thingy be what's messing me up? If so does anyone know where I can download it? Thanks in advance.

I dont get that but it does say in red a lot of files I am missing that I think I should have. FOr example it says Pet window and spell icon as some of the things missing. What I would like to know is that after listing all of these things I am missing it says EQEmu is ready in green at the bottom but then I get the error 53 message.

I get the discord.txt not found error, but it otherwise runs fine for me.
In response to the 'Error 70 permission denied error' I've found this is the case if there is already a copy of the patcher process running, but with no window (This happens to me if I close the patcher window before it has finished running and said all files ok, Or accidently open it twice at the same time)

You need to open the taskmanager and scroll down the processes list to see if there is a process called 'Patch.exe' (about ~8,688Kb ish). If so end the process and the patcher should load correctly then after (Or at least it does for me)

As for the other error, I have never encountered it so can't offer any input there.

Under Windows XP / 2K / .NET SERVER you can directly access it by right clicking on an empty space on the taskbar and clicking the Task Manager option.

Failing that on some versions of windows (But not all) pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del brings it up (If it takes you to a blue screen just press space and try otherwise)

On Windows NT, pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del will take you to a blank screen with one window on with a list of buttons, one of them is the Task Manager.

As a last resort you can try clicking run, under the start bar & type 'TASKMAN' then click ok (This does'nt work on any of the OS's based on the NT kernal as far as I know, but might work under '98.)

If none of that helps and you use '98 then I can't help, I don't touch '98 with a bargepole. (Soz)

Default Grrrr

Bah! Still no luck, oh well. Maybe I was just destined not to play EQ. I'll keep trying but this is looking bad.

there are several threads on this topic. I recommend using the search feature on this bb, it works great. Additionally, I would first make sure that eq is up-to-date with the eqlive servers (to take care of the "missing file" problem and them rerun the eqemu patch program. This worked for me. EQ runs fine after that.

i did get mine working, not entirly sure how though, i reinstalled it etc and messed about with eqw then i tried replacing the host.txt file after patching with proper eq.exe (got to server select and that was it)

none seemed to work so on the off chance it might work i tried the eqemu patcher again a voila! sorted...

but now i'm thinking, if this happened once it can happen again which is obviously a bit annoying... so i was trying to get it to run from the start menu, using XP you have to have quotation marks in the command line or you get ''error:cannot find e:program''

so i got past that bit and now i get ''failed to load graphics DLL''

seems like a loosing battle, sure i can get on to eq, but the server i play on zones are all fuzzy hehe

hope you get yours working

no idea if this will help or not /shrug

good luck

When you say you reinstalled "it" do you mean just the EQemu patcher and patches or all the EQ stuff like the original and the expansions? Thanks for the advice, I'm sure it will work.

aye sorry i'll try to illaborate...

i reinstalled eqemu patcher, and the Mdak, i patched the normal EQ i used eqw the fix eq file...

like i said no idea if it will help, you could try patching the normal EQ and instead of pressing play, switch the eqhost.txt in the eq drectory to the one you get from here, then press play... it got me to server select but couldnt connect to any servers... might have just been me though.

its a bit fiddly but its worth a shot

good luck
