Default Two Parts, Directx error, also does server need to be patch

Hello All,

I have Two Parts two this question.

First Directx error i'm running Win2k I have everything down pat looks great, this is using "mini log in" and a home lan, everything looks to be perfect, except no matter what'! I get a Directx6 error!

Tells me that it is not found and needs it. I have installed per posts I have found up to directx8.2 update! this did not work, Uninstalled reinstalled Everquest on the client system, reapplied Directx still same error! So went as far as uninstalling EQ on the server and reinstalling, not sure about a couple things on the server!
Hence question #2

Does server need to be patched with \\path to files\eqgame.exe patchme? or just the client system?

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Nordis if you need to send an email to me please send to nordis_24_7@yahoo

I thnk the one I used to create the account has issues right now.

Don't know, exactly, why you can't upgrade your DirectX to get rid of the problem. I do know, unfortunately, per Microsoft, you can't uninstall DirectX from a Win2000 machine. You have to reinstall Win2000 (the OS) to remove DirectX and then reinstall DirectX.

I suggest you try that angle if nothing else works.

NOTE: I play a few older games, too, which required a version of DirectX prior to v8. When I install one of those games, the installer doesn't realize I already have v8.1 installed and prompts me to install DirectX v6 or something. I always say NO and the game works fine under DX8.1. I figure, if you accidentally said YES or OK in a situation like that, the install of an older version would corrupt the installed DX8 version. If so, I figure you're back to reinstalling the OS.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have reinstalled the OS, but this did not work.

For some reason my Geforce 2 drivers always load a version of directx 7, and do not prompt me for this install! Which I thought odd.

I don't know if this is where the problem lies or not but I will check with their support and see if I can get around this some how.

Thanks again for the suggestion.

I am in the process of attempting that. Now before I go beating my self up anymore over this. I figure I will put this out.

The version of EQ that I am running is just the very 1st version not patched at all! Now I know if I patch from their servers this will break eqmu for me.

So I have my server that is not patched, and I have my client pc that is not patched either, that I try to run \\eqgame.exe patchme on and this is when I get the error.

Should I be doing something with packet collector 1st! Maybe actually patching from EQ and watching that I don't get patches after a certain date or something? Grabing at straws now. Don't know what to do! Just want to make sure I am doing this correct. If so I will just keep at my client pc till I figure out whats up with the DirectX error.

Thanks again everyone for the support

I believe you must patch from EQLive to get your initial install of Everquest up to spec. Then you must run the EQPatcher to get the EQEmu patch overwrite to the files from EQLive. This will put your client up to the level needed to run EQEmu.

If you're running a LAN server, you'll want to edit the host.txt file in your client Everquest directory to look for your database server on your LAN. Just make a backup of the host.txt file and enter your IP address for the world server... the one you run minilogin and world.exe from.

But I don't think this really has much to do with your DX problem. The Nvidia upgrade will help you, likely. Also, since you have a new OS install and that default DX7 installation on top of it, you should be able to upgrade to DX8.1 or something over the Dx7.

I ran into a snag where "no 3D device found" error kept popping up in a Win2000 install. I just set that box up to dual-boot Win98 and Win2000. I use Win98 to play all my games and Win2000 for all my serious, productivity stuff.

Good luck.

Hmm patching from EQ Live will break my install of EQEMU though!

I thought that was why we used eqgame.exe patchme

Must have been mistaken.

Ok will packet collector work with not patching to the point of where it breaks?

Or am I way of the path of what packet collector does?

Thanks again.

Default Dev's released a patcher for the EMU........

The Dev's recently released a patcher program to patch your client "back" to Emu compatible.
It's avalable in the D\L's area.

Default It Worked!

Wooooo yea!! it worked!

Thats all it was"

I hadn't patched the original version up to the most current version of EQLive!

Once I patched to the most current version of EQLive the DirectX 6 error went away.

Now when I type \eqgame.exe patchme EQ loads right up now.

Sweet. I'm happy! :P

Thanks again everyone for all the help!
