Fortunately, it's up to the individual players themselves to pick a server to call home. The unfortunate side comes when you see a new schnazzy 1337-pVpOmGROxXoRz server pop up on the list, flock to it, and it goes away in 2 weeks because someone tells the admin they didn't like the color tunic on a custom NPC. ~cries~

Best bet still, preferred servers. They are preferred for a reason; Longevity. The more players we can pile onto those servers, the greater chance we'll all have of building a social structure. We really do need a PvP server, run by an adult, who doesn't PvP, that becomes Preferred. I think that would fill a huge gap in what our community desires.

But to me (the incredibly lame guy), been there, done that.

I played as much of Live EQ as I could tolerate. I play with the Emu now because it's fun, my pace, and I can go anywhere and see anything I want anytime I want. As a GM on your own server, you can visit places you've been and favor, or see places you've never seen without 20+ people. No flagging. No keys. No waiting to level. This is speaking to those who want to create a private server just to mess around.

Empty? All zones through Luclin are spawned. The only thing the emu zones are empty of is annoying kids.
We're spawned way past that and are releasing more zones all the time. So some servers are also less empty than others.

For example, LoY is live in its entirety, and we're releasing PoP zones at a rapid pace. We have every PoP zone spawned, through timeb, just balancing them before release (we've already released a bunch). We even have GoD zones spawned and are in the process of spawning DoN and LDoN.

That being said, we're also NOT trying to duplicate EQ live in all respects. We aim for low population, solo or group raiding. We also work around emu limitations when we "design" our zones. We also offer different loot than usual (although many bosses still also drop what they dropped on Live, we just enhance them in many cases). Etc. Etc.

The emu is what you make of it. THAT is it's beauty. No more dangling SoE carrots in your face.

I say, come join the fun. This emulator is incredible.
