Question The Lag Bug Strikes - Alternatives

Currently I Run Icelance Server - At Peak Times We Normally See Around 30 People...

Up Until About 3 Weeks Ago It Was Running On XP Fine - But With Older Code: No Reports Of Player Ghosting AT ALL - Just Random Dc's In Zones With Higher Creature Populations

About 2 Weeks ago I Migrated It To Another Dedicated Linux Box In My House - With Slightly Less CPU and Ram (But Still Enough to Run It Smoothly)... - No Player Issues Whatsoever - But Due To Issues With Getting My Windows XP Box To Work With The Linux Box I Was Forced To Migrate Back To Xp After One Week. (To Get The Tools To Work I Would Have To Boot Mysql With Regular IP Settings - Then Go Into Tools And Change It To a 192.168.0.__ Number) - It Worked Once For About 2 Hours - After a Server Reset Mysql Will NEVER Leave the "refreshing" state until I remove the Internal IP I Assigned Mysql.... So That Was My Issue With Linux (newest Build btw)

I Migrated Back to The XP Box About a Week Ago... Ever Since I Have Had a High Frequency Of Player Ghosting... Its a Plague
-Im Running The Newest Build (I Was Not Before) That Is The ONLY Difference

So My Question To You Guys Is This...

*Smash My Head In Until I Get Linux Working Correctly (Which I Definatly Prefer Windows Over)..

*Use Windows Xp And Perhaps Someone Knows Possible Fixes (I Thought 1129 Fixed These Issues ???

*Use Server 2003 On The 2nd Box - Anyone Know If Server 2003 Has Player Ghosting Issues?????? - *****Really Want Input On This*****

Windows has always had problems with player ghosting. No one has been able to solve it or figure out why it happens only on Windows and not on Linux. Linux is really the best solution. If you run Debian, the wiki page for it is pretty detailed and explains how to run your tools remotely from a windows PC. It works perfectly for me.

If you are planning to run just on Windows, the only other option I know of to help with player ghosting is the zone reset script I submitted in the custom quest section of the forums. It has all of the details about it there, but basically, you set it up and have NPCs that will reset each zone on a timer. When I was running windows, I had most lower level zones resetting every 4 hours and my higher level raid zones were every 8 hours. It does help, but Linux is still the only real solution.
