I have been playing for about a year now and have easily connected to the servers with no issues, but all of a sudden EQ crashes and is unresponsive whenever I try to connect to any server. any helpful ideas?

The main reason a crash like that can happen is if your port 5998 or 5999 is being blocked or forwarded on your router or blocked on your ISP. Another reason is if your client is messed up and is either not the right version, partially patched, or has custom files on it.

My first recommendation would be to check the FAQ in my sig and probably do an uninstall, then delete the EQ folder completely and do a fresh install again. Also, what client are you running?
