Default Newbie General Question - Thanks in advance!

Hi EQemu peoples. I'm very green to the concepts of EQEmu and just have a couple questions.

I played EQ for 3 years but have quit (well, can we really ever quit?), but there was still a lot of zones and mobs that I never got to see up close. And even though I raided in many of the high end zones, with monkeys doing all the pulling there's a lot I never did get to check out for myself.

I'd love to fire up a local instance of EQ, make myself invincable and just run around and check out a lot of areas and mobs I never got to see. Is that easily possible with EQEmu, or does it require a lot of work? From what I gather I can run my own server, but I'm unsure of how many zones at a time I can realistically serve myself. Or, can I even run the EQ Client on the same PC I use to serve those zones?

Secondly, and not as important... It would be cool to actually run around and solo some of the big baddies that I usally had my face pressed into a wall for on big raids (I played a shaman).

Doing some of this stuff would really help me *end* EQ... is it possible?

Thanks for your help.

cheers,

Mullzy

Yep you can do all that.

Depending on your system you can run the emu server and the client on the same system. I have a 1Ghz system with 256MB and it works fine.

See my sig for a lot of referances and walkthrus. Basically you need the EQEmu binaries, mySQL, a database, and your EQ client software. Oh the patcher to get the correct version of the EQ executables to run the emu.

See http://forums.eqemu.net/viewtopic.php?t=7942 for a good database and associated files, including the propper emu executables for it. http://eqemu.net/index.php?patcher for the patcher. And www.mysql.com for mysql.

Enjoy

Great thanks. I wasn't sure how much processing the server portion took... I have a 1.5 Ghz system with 512MB ram so I guess I should be fine.

I'd just really like to run around places like Siren's Grotto or even the Vindicator part of Kael... all the places that are pretty much inaccessible to non-pullers.

Is there a spawn/item database that is most like the Live servers?

thanks again,

Mullzy

Currently the spawns are implemented in most of old + kunark zones and some Velious / Sol / Pop zones. Item Database are pretty complete I believe, it goes up to all items till Sol + some pop gears.

How about flags/keys. Obviously I can zone myself anywhere if I make myself a GM on my own server... but if I go around and kill the mobs that either drop key pieces or spawn flag mobs, do they actually work? Or is that a nightmare of scripting?

I think I'm sold on the idea of even just running around ALL the EQ zones with no mobs up... just to get a good peak. Having mobs or even bosses/gods spawned would be even nicer. Killing them and looting them for a laugh would be better yet.
