Default When should we stop patching to EQLive's latest?

I have two questions.

1.) Is there a cutoff to when we should stop patching to the latest version of EQLive? I know that the scroll on the server screen within EQEmu say that 0.5.0 will catch up to EQLive, but which patch is that referring to? My EverQuest.exe version is 8/1/03, which was the last time I patched (after reinstalling EQ). I'd hate to run the patcher and end up having to wait for 0.5.1!

2.) I don't play EQLive any more, so I haven't created another directory just for the Emu. Which files should be backed up in the event that someone accidently patches to a version of EQLive that breaks EQEmu?

Thanks,

Epyon

Default backup

since you dont play EQLive anymore use one directory to patch to live and try and play EQEmu on those files, if it works do it to the other directory. but i would save a directory of useable files and put it somewhere where it wont be touched just in case

you might need to beat me with the stupid stick, but how would I go about being able to tell which version of EQ I have?
I have like two old copys of EQ that might be somewhere near what the EMU is at, not sure how to tell though... did a bit of browsing and searching and came up with nada.

Open Windows Explorer and browse to your EQ directory. Find Everquest.exe and EQGame.exe and look at what the dates are in the 'Modified' column.

How does the date correspond to the eqhost file you should use?
I have an EQgame modified from...
Friday, February 07, 2003, 2:16:36 PM
and
8/14/2002

would they be of any use?

The one from February probably wont work with EQEmu at all. The 8/14 might work with the 0.5.0 servers (5997 loginserver).

For 0.4.x servers you need the client and files from december (dont ask for them).
