Default Getting "please run everquest.exe"

I followed the instructions including the part where I add "patchme" to the end of the target of my eqgame shortcut. Please tell me i'm not an idiot, what am I doing wrong?

Sounds like you did not change the eqhost.txt file like it says to in the many guides that are on this site.

I did, this isn't a connection problem. The shortcut isn't working right. In the guide, it told me that the cause of this error is mostly the fact that people forget to add "patchme" to the end of their shortcuts. After lurking through a few threads, I haven't found a solution. All i've seen is that all most people do is refer you to "one of the many guides or faqs." It would be appreciated if you could point me to said guide, or just tell me the answer to my question, oh High and Mighty One.

Your shortcut has 2 fields of importance.
One is your target. The other is the source folder.
Follow this example, where C:\Program Files\Everquest Trilogy\ is your target folder, and C:\Program Files\Everquest Trilogy\eqgame.exe is your target file.

Source folder:
"C:\Program Files\Everquest Trilogy\"

Target:
"C:\Program Files\Everquest Trilogy\eqgame.exe" patchme

If you notice, the patchme is outside the quotes. That is very important. Please check your shortcut for syntax errors.

I go by either "Oh high and mighty one" or "hey, dude". You can use the latter if you wish.

This has nothing to do with eqhost.txt this is most likly because you did not create the shortcut properly.

Yes you add patchme but you did not pay attension to the placing of the "" in the guides.

"c:\<path to eq>\eqgame.exe" patchme

*edit

Seems my submit click is not as fast as a_guest's

I have noticed that most people who have a hard time making the shortcut find EQW easier to use. So if you dont understand what your being told to do with it, just do a search for EQW go to that site DL it and run it.

My shortcut appears as follows.

"C:\Program Files\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme

EQW works. Thanks a bunch.

edit2: Whenever I join a server, the window goes off the left side of the screen, this results in me not being able to see and click everything, do I need a different resolution or something?

Alt tab out of the window and move it so you can see everything. If you're running XP and you can't alt tab out then goto eqw formus there is a fix for this there.

Cmon Matt, the kiddies are always interested in learning new words. Make sure you're the one selling the soap to the parents tho first.
