AE's hitting the caster

sorry if this has been asked before, I searched but could not find anything on AE's landing on the casters.

Scenario:
Mage casts an AE DD and in addition to the spell landing on mobs, it also hits the caster (happens with Mages and Wizzies).

is there a way to prevent the AE's from hitting the caster?
