Best Login Server

I followed:

to the letter and my server is up and running here on this site.

I would like to now transfer my server to a private server where my LAN can access it and friends from the internet can access it.

Because the forums are so filled with fantastic information I am unsure which login server is the one to use and which set of instructions will allow an idiot (that would be me) to set it up.

Any suggestions would rock.
