play without patching?

Ok seen as i can't seem to use the EQEmu Patcher i.e(can not connect to patch server), I was thinking maybe if i reinstall everquest and expansions but do not patch to eqlive would i be able to play then?

Sorry if this seems a silly question but ive been trying to get this thing to work for day's and this seems to be the only option open to me.
