EverQuest and USB Modems...

Recently i re-installed my computer and got a new modem, it works fine however for when im loading EverQuest it gets as far as loading character profiles then my modem dies, sometimes it will get to character select but it always dies around there, was wondering if anyone else had the same problem or knew of any fix's for this..
