Pre-compiled vs. Compiling It Yourself

Haven't seen this question asked/answered anywhere...

Q1A - Is the current compiled version out on WINCVS compiled from whatever the latest source is, or is that based off of a stable release branch and only compiled every once in a while?

Q1B - Or, asking it another way, if I'm trying to use the 6.0 DR1 database format, should I be grabbing the source or can I use the compiled version out there?


Q2 - Also, as a general question, does compiling the source on my machine (that I'm going to be running it on) provide any advantage to using a pre-compiled version?
