It is really not the hard, you just have to have half a brain which you are apparently missing. And yes there quite a few decent servers out there. If you really doubt this than you have not been in this community for long enough.

Default Complete newb is I

I just have one question about his EMU installer. This will only allow me to play on other people's servers, right? Too make my own server I have to follow one of the guides.

Ok, maybe two questions. Does anyone know if I install my old copy of EQ all the up to Ykesha, will iwantavr4's guide still work? Cause it said that it's for pre 5/11 stuff. Not sure if it means it will work for all new stuff as well.

I'm sure these are obnoxiously stupid questions, but would appreciate if someone could help.

Thanks

Cavedude's installer is to make your OWN server.

As for the 5/11 thing, that indicates what patch client you need. Unfortunately the first time you connect to Sony's server to patch though you will get the latest and "greatest" patch available.

Now while you can use that guide to setup a server that allows people with the 5/11 client to play on, you will not be able to play on it yourself unless you had said client. Unfortunately old files are not readily available and are considered warez.

The hardest part about setting up a server, is the client side dates :P

Default Hmmm

Ok, so I need to set up a server that allows the latest patch? Can I do that? Like is it lots of coding and stuff? Or just changing some lines...

I'm also guessing that Cavedude's probably doesn't work for the latest patch. In which case I only wasted a couple of minutes, lol. I don't mind starting over, I just wanna get it right.

(BTW, I had to reinstall EQ. So I'm gonna have to use the newest patch and the headline for the forum makes that seem grim)

The headline for the forum makes that seem grim indeed. The emu has been frozen on the 9/13 patch. While it makes it tough for the new comer to break into the scene, it overall, creates a better emu. It allows the devs to stop worrying about playing catch-up with the latest client and allows them to instead work on the features of the emu. I think a more stable and reliable server out weighs the client problems (as far as patching goes).

First and foremost, search can answer your questions. But for some reason people act like using the search function runs in the same cirlce as worshipping the devil. Well anyway, NO it does not require coding to actually setup the server. The main part of it is just setting up the SQL server. If you use the search option I guarentee you will find the answer MUCH faster and with very little hastle. Setting up the actual server is the easiest part by far and you will notice that as soon as you finish that. You really do not need to be a computer major to figure it out.

As for the problem with you reinstalling EQ. Because you did this you cannot host a server for EQEmu. There ARE places to go to get a backpatch but I am not at liberty to talk about that here.

Hang on there..... you mean using Search isn't an act of Devil Worship? I thought I couldn't use Search if I didn't have any cats to sacrifice... have I been misled?
