One last detail.
I have DSL and am also using an 8 port linksys hub for a personal network.
ipconfig gives me the IP address my system has locally, while I have so far avoided using my external IP address for anything at all. Could there be some sort of conflict?
I have even tried unplugging my NIC connection and then starting the EMU server.
I appreciate any advice you can give. I'm trying to get this thing running before my Christmas vacation from work starts!!!

Try opening a Command Prompt window or 5, and starting a copy of zone (or perlzone) in each. That way you'll see what output there was just prior to the shutdown.

OK, that's something I haven't tried yet.
I tried manually starting the zones using a DOS window. They still closed.

So, I changed my 'start zone' to 'start zoneperl' in the 5zone.bat file.
This kept the windows opened and displayed the following to me (in all 5 windows): "127.0.0.1:9000:TCP connection::RECVDATA():Error: 10054"

And then each window displayed "sleeping"

Tried starting the game, locks trying to connect to the server status screen.

make sure you have the ports forwarded on the router and your zones should look like this

start zone . external ip 7995 internal ip

may be the other way around its been a wile.

Thanks everyone!

A combination of everything helped I think. After port forwarding and tweaking my config files the zones are now connected to my world server successfully. Now on to another problem...

The server login screen shows my server with a status "0".

When I try to log on it simply goes to a black screen for about a minute or two then kicks me back to the login / password screen. No error message.

I made sure to copy spells_us and _en from my EQ client directory to the emulator directory. I have verified my server & client are both 0.6.2-DR1.
When the zones start it displays "current_zone_version 0.6.3-DR1". No idea where it got 0.6.3 from but could this be the problem?

any ideas?
