Thanks Sesmar,

I went through unrest with my GM and did a #showstats on the monsters. The factionID that comes up is the primary key of the npc_faction table. For example, a ghoul in unrest comes up as factionID 512. On the npc_faction table this is listed as a_ghoul with a primaryfaction of 117, which is the Ghouls of Neriak on the faction_list table. Makes sense.

Now the majority of the mobs in unrest have a primaryfaction of 0 (zero). Is this because we just don't know what faction they are on? Or does 0 represent something else? I tried checking some sites but they don't list a faction for these monsters, like a dry bones skeleton.

I am going to check out the other zones I am having problems with and I suspect there will be a similar problem with this faction 0.

If the primaryfaction field is 0 for an npc_faction record, any npc's that are on that npc_faction_id will always con neutral. The primaryfaction field needs to correspond to an id from faction_list for the NPC to have any bias toward a player.

(However, depending on the npc_faction_entries records, the NPC could still have bias for or against certain other NPC's)

Does anyone know what faction the undead in unrest are on for the live servers?

I checked the undead in Nektulos out. They are attacking players and they have a primary faction of 366, which is listed as just "KOS" in the table. I am guessing this is just a generic faction PEQ is using to "fill in the blanks."

I was thinking of setting something like this up for my server. I just have to decide if I want it to be a world wide generic or zone specific. Something like "undead" or "undead of unrest."

I guess the big question on this is do you want people to be able to gain faction with the "Undead of Unrest"? If you want to make it so that people can gain or lose faction with them then creating their own seperate faction would be a good idea. If you dont plan on having that as an option then I dont see why you could not just set them all to a standard generic KOS faction. It would be a lot easier across the board if you do not plan on letting people gain faction with them.

Well I would really like to have it set up like it is on live. I don't remember people being able to gain faction with the undead on live, so I will probably just use this KOS faction. I could have sworn there was a faction for "the undead" on live, but I haven't played in years so who knows.

From what they say on PEQ's website I was under the impression that their database was very close to live up through Velious. But I am finding out that is not the case. Many of the spawns in the zones we have played in are not the same. Nektulos was a disaster area that required multiple fixes. Spell research is not implemented ( I guess this is a client issue? ) Now I am finding that the factions are not all in either.

Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing or flaming them at all, I don't mind tinkering with the database myself. At the very least it lets me put the stuff I learned in my classes to good use.

I am considering my server a "work in progress." We play and as we encounter problems, I will fix them. But finding information is proving extremely difficult.

From what I have been able to gather, the information about where mobs spawn and what loot they carry is gathered from logs players create while playing EQ live? And then teams like PEQ populate the database with this information? Is there a place one can find all of this information?

You might also want to consider submiting your fixes to PEQ. If you find things that you know are not right and can fix it let them know. PEQ's goal is to create an extremely live like Database and I am sure they would be happy for any help they can get in achiving this.

Actually I have never received a response from those folks in any form. I have tried to get in touch with them on the forums, IRC, and email. It's like a ghost town. I have heard from others that they are not so open to people "fixing" things in their database.

I wouldn't mind it though. At the very least it would be nice to have access to the information that would allow me to add the missing pieces to my own database. I have had good luck with you and Cavedude though.
