Very true, but since he mentioned having a FX 5900, I imagin he is rolling around the P4 stage at the moment. As much of a pain in the ass it would be, you could just dual boot into a windows enviroment and play away. If the classic project takes off, you may be able to run it via VMware with little or no performance drop. Dont quite know how a 7 year old game will fair in VM, but there isnt much feature rich stuff in Trilogy as there is now so it might work.

Buying another PC is not an option. I already have to many set up now for the wife's liking. All run Linux, 2 are servers and 1 is my gaming/music recording rig. I really did not want to dual boot because I have limited disk space as it is already. I will keep working on it to see if I can find a work around.

Check out VMWare to see if you can emulate a PC on your *nix box.

The PC specs are:

AMD Athlon XP 2800+
1 Gig DDR Ram
Geforce FX 5900 XT
Soundblaster Audigy 2 platnium
OS: Gentoo Linux 2007.0
Kernel: 2.6.20-r8-gentoo

I haven't tried VM ware yet, I thought the performance hit would be too much.

For me, all the time I had Cedega, Everquest always preformed better under windows, I never really cared for the new models, I'm so used to the old ones, I developed sort of an "affection" for them during my "golden days" of Eq. Cedega runs better and faster with old models and horses, etc turned off.
Lately, I opened up bazaar on the server (Still not complete, but working!), and what is bazaar with no horses? I have a PC i built with a 2.4gig P4 CPU, 1 gig mem and and an FX 5200 ( probably spent uder 200.00 for the upgrade to one of my old old P3s) - works fine with all characters and horses turned on, but with windows - I wouldn't attempt this under Cedega.
They say it supports EQ and it does, but not like it used to, and never better than under windows.
The way I see it: windows games/programs are for windows, and Linux games/programs are for Linux.
I love Linux, and have a lot of fun with it and have learned a lot too. But if you're a gamer, you better have a windows machine too, because most all the games are made for Windows and not for Linux. Not that one is better than the other, but Linux is free, open source, and windows is free, "open-your-wallet-source", and who wants to make a game for free anyways?
