I hate to say anything cause it always comes back and bites me right in the ass
But I'll say it anyways; You need to aquire a little understanding on what you are doing; What does MySql mean? Perl? what is a batch file?
When I started I knew a bit of Perl but nothing of MySql or any other SQL for that matter, other than it was a database.
These things are very simple to learn (hell, I learned it!), and I suggest anyone starting in EqEmu, become familiarized with it all first.
You can break down EqEmu into three areas:
the source (executables, or emulator), MySql (EqEmu will NOT work without it), and Perl (for all the quests, what npc's say, etc.)
The "start.bat" file is just a DOS command-line script for running all the emulator executables.

Ok, so unless I understand what these things are, then following the guide wont work at all? Ill start reading up on it over the net. Im sure ill be able to find something out there.

I wish that I didnt have to make a server at all. I would be more than happy to just play on someone elses if I could. The problem with it is that I dont want to switch to anniversary. There is only one reason that I came to eqemu and that is that it has the old, un-revamped zones. I read on the forums that you guys will be switching at some point and so im a little anxious about getting this up and running on my lan.

Anyway, thank you all for the help.

Make a file called emu.bat in the main emu directory and paste in the following. Then, double click it. It will make launching your server much easier.

Code:
@echo off

start world.exe
cls
echo Wait for World to finish loading... Press Enter when done.
pause
start eqlaunch.exe zone
exit

That is the same thing that I have already, same exact wording and all. Its just that mine is named Start.bat and yours is named emu.bat. I followed what it said in the guide, on page 22. So that likely isnt the problem, since I went ahead and did what you said to do anyway and it did the same exact thing. Also, since reading Angelox's post I tried running the .exe's on their own, and they pop up a cmd type window and then close within a blink of an eye. Is there something wrong with the emu files that I should try to fix? Also, Im on the Vista operating system, with the files in the C:/ directory. Do you think Vista could be blocking them from running?

You're using the newest executables , but your database may be older - look at the log and find the update required for those executables.
where did you get your database from and what version is it?
