I run my server on Vista 64, with the exception of now that I switched it to Linux. I also run the client on Vista 64, and I've never had any issues. As long as you're up to date on all your stuff there shouldn't be any issues with vista. Just have to always deal with UAC, or turn it off.

I have those same problems when I try to connect to any server (I get stuck on character selection screen). I guess my problem is with vista 64 then. I tried runfirst to run eq on a single core but it didn't work at all.

Right now I'm trying to get my own server working. I am using R486 eqemu with all the lastest database and changes available on the svn.

I tried titanium but it was even worst than secrets of faydwer. At least with sof I get to the character selection screen but I get stuck there .

I dont have any problems with any game except eq.

I have this line in my dbg.txt and I really dont know what it means

[Thu May 14 21:41:04 2009]00073:Failed to open C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\EverQuest\GlobalDRK_chr.s3d.

Is that file even supposed to exist? I didn't have it in my fresh sof install.

thanks for your help

You can ignore that line in your EQ debug file, that is normal to see and isn't an issue as far as I know.

It sounds like you are still having a multi core CPU issue. Are you using an Intel or an AMD processor? Intel's seem to work perfectly without needing any changes in most operating systems, but AMDs normally need drivers installed, at least in XP or so for them to work right. Though, Vista should have those working already as long as your updates are current. Probably the reason that SoF works better for you is because it has better multi-core support than Titanium does. Have you tried going through the options screen before the login screen again to make sure it saves your settings properly before playing? Once you edit those options, you have to exit EQ and restart it for the changes to take effect. Might be a good idea to restart your whole PC if you haven't tried that already.

Oh, what version of DirectX are you running? I hear EQ doesn't like DX10 much.

Hi Trevius,

ok when I thought I was stuck at the character screen, I really wasn't. I could get in my server but I had another problem.

Listen to this, it is kinda weird. I thought I was stuck because buttons didn't work when I clicked on them. In fact they are working but I have to click repeatedly on any button for it to work. The animations of the character are too fast and my mouse clicks are too fast.

I finally succeeded in creating a character (by drilling on the buttons) and got into the game. When I got in the game, I noticed that my character is running way, WAY too fast. So, everything is way too fast at the character selection screen and way too fast in game.

My pc is very fast but I don't understand why eq is faster than it should be.

I'm running the game on a single core with runfirst too.

do you have any idea what I could do to make the game run at a normal speed?

thanks for your help

That is definitely a multi-core issue, considering the symptoms. Is this a PC that you built yourself, or one that was built by a manufacturer? And have you verified what version of DirectX you are running? You should be able to click your start button and click "Run..." and then type in dxdiag in the box and click ok and it will load DXDiag and show you your DirectX version.

I would try stopping the program that is forcing you to run on a single core, because it obviously isn't helping. Then, maybe try running in different compatibility modes to see if any help.

Also, it is worth noting that I had built myself a PC about a year ago and got a CPU that was apparently not compatible with the motherboard I had bought to use with it (though the motherboard info showed that it should have been). I had very similar issues to the ones you are seeing and nothing I did could resolve it. Finally after I isolated that it had to be an issue with the hardware, I contacted the manufacturer of the motherboard to find that the CPU was recently added to the unsupported list for that motherboard. And, that was my problem the entire time (DAYS of troubleshooting wasted). Though, when I was having that particular problem, I noticed major performance issues in all games I tried to play, not just EQ.

yeah I have dx10. But I also have the directx 9.0C components. My pc doesn't have any trouble running directx 9.0c games.

I have had this pc for over a year now and the only game I had problems with is eq. I can play any other game fine.

I know amd has a patch to solve that kind of problems but I didn't find anything for intel.

Any other clue for me?

thanks

Sorry to necropost.

KillEverything listed the exact problem that I am having with a fresh install of SoF client. I can get as far as creating a character and pressing the Enter World button. At that point, I sit for about a minute before receiving a Disconnected from server error.

On my server, I can see where i connected and the world server is trying to zone me into my starting city (neriakc). At the point I get a client disconnected message on the server (not in active process - something like that).

Any ideas?

The client disconnect from the world process is normal. That is when the client is transferring to the zone process. Since it made it that far, you will have to check log files for the zone process to look for errors.
