FNW came on briefly (he's away on business again) to let me know the host tells him they disconnected us due to a believed attack. We have no more info than this, and will not until FNW comes back. We won't be back up until he can talk to the host, and neither he nor I knows when that will be so please don't ask about an ETA. This is exactly all I know, so please don't ask for more details because when I have them, I will give them to you. Though, hopefully the server will be back up before another update.

Maybe we found our bandwidth problem CaveDude, hmm ? Would explain the problems we have been having. Crossing fingers ....

I'm hoping FNW gets as much data from the host as he can regarding where and how the traffic was coming in on. I don't believe it's a traditional or even an intentional attack. We noticed that when we stopped the server, our traffic was very minimal, but with the EQEmu server up, we'd get huge spikes of incoming traffic that does kinda resemble an attack. Since it's coming in from the clients, it almost has to be some sort of 3rd party program such as MQ2 causing it. But, until I have more data we can't say for sure.

I'm telling you it's some absolute retard on a FIOS connection running bogus MQ2 scripts. Why has it taken so long to figure out the IP address of the person that is involuntarily dos'ing the server? How hard can it be???

Whoever it is needs to get banned even if it isn't intentional.

Glad I found this post, I almost created a new thread on the topic. Sucks to hear you guys are having issues Cavedude.

For the moment folks, I have been playing on the 4x exp/vendor epic/armor server. It certainly isn't PEQ, but it's a fun way to pass the time while I wait for peq to come back up. =)

It would have to be a seriously bad or intentionally written script to cause that much upstream traffic.

If you can get the IP, I assume you can get link that to someone who is logged in.

I can tell ya there's some people who just shouldn't be writing their own scripts after the countless MQ help for simple things I've given, so I could certainly see someones script being bad.

Either way, I look forward to the servers return.

Would be nice to have the PEQ forums back up in the meantime though.
