Thanks but that moved my problem from lua to perl (again, unresolved external references). I updated my path from the x64 version and relaunched VS and even created a dependency directory (Perl_x86\lib) to no success. :(

Edit: added context - the MSI package for Active Perl only installs the detected OS bitness (ie. 64 bit on x64, 32 bit on x86), which explains the unresolved symbols. So unless someone can share a 32 bit Perl distribution for 5.16, these binaries won't work either. :(
