This worked for me

Go to Control Panel/Display and change Settings to 16 bit and desktop size to 640/480...Now launch patcher again but before typing in password click options and change desktop size to 640/480, turn textures to low and turn all options off (for now)....try that, it could be just a memory issue so buy more RAM.
