OK....I have FINALLY found a solution !!!!

For me the solution is : to run this game in windows 98 compatibility mode !

I don't know why i must do this but it works

I hope it will help people who have the same problem

Oh man. Thank you so very much for this. After countless hours trying to get my friend's dual-core rig running EQ properly under Windows XP, that compatibility deal did it. I can't believe I never thought of that. Thank you, from he and I both!

I still don't understand why it works in win98 mode.......

I have 5 computers running at home ,all with dual core and only the " alienware "
have this problem....

Right click on the shortcut. There should be a tab for Compatibility mode. Check the box for running the proper compatibility mode (98, XP, etc).

I wasn't trying to bump it for my benefit; I'm not having a problem in this case. I was just adding a response for enabling compatibility mode so that if someone else has the same question in the future, they will find the answer if they use the search function.
