You're welcome. There is one more (rare) crash fix that I need to fix still (and I have a feeling it's an easy fix, thankfully), but it should be pretty solid now.

I been fiddling with the merc system within this last week and it all seems to work just fine. But then yesterday when I sourced in the newer database and recompiled the latest git. The server just kept crashing everytime. Not sure why and how but when I disabled the mercenary from loading up into the database. the crashing stopped.

I am also getting the EXACT same crash dump from zone each time I try loading in. Tried pasting it into the code box, but the forum times out trying to post it. It's the same as Robs, anyone able to shed some light on this?

Looks like it's trying to spawn a merc that it couldn't load?

The crash can easily be avoided by checking for merc before calling spawn(merc, false); on line 5530 of merc.cpp. But I would also be interested in knowing what the templateId was when it crashed. What mercs do you have? Level?

Of course debugging into LoadMerc() to find why it's not returning a valid merc would be helpful. I'm assuming it's hitting something and jumping to the bottom where it returns 0. Knowing where would help tremendously.

I've tossed in the towel for now and am using an older revision, but when this was happening, I didn't even get far enough to get a merc, let alone set up my UI or do anything. Get to character select screen -> click enter world -> zone.exe crash.

I had peqdb_rev2506 sourced, followed by load_player,view,qs,login, and mercs.sql from the svn folder sourced in, followed by the git update sqls. I just could NOT get into the game without zone.exe taking a nose dive. I tried compiling with and without bots enabled, I tried not sourcing in mercs, I tried cursing at my monitor while giving the zone process the finger, nothing helped.

Now that I have an older revision running happily, I'm going to try again and post back. Smart money is on I screwed something up along the way and was trying to patch things up instead of fixing the underlying issue.

I haven't test it lately since I turned the merc off. I just recently got a new hard drive and just got everything reinstalled. I'll give it a test. since I got everything sourced back in.
