When you scroll up and down that server list on the forum here, it's hard to close your eyes without having "PoP" burned in your mind
from seeing it so many times. It's like the standard model of the EQ vehicle comes off the assembly line with all the basics you see
on that list. PoPower, auto this and that, cruise, tilt, etc., with a trunk full of raid bosses and a gas tank full of experience.
Just exactly how many times do people want to kill Naggy, Vox and Quarm ?
When it comes to "new ideas" for a server, it's impossible to get an inclination of what could attract a (continuous) population.
It's really not a matter of struggling to come up with a unique idea, it's a "meeting of the minds" between players and new servers.
Out in RL, you can do market research before you get something going, but with the overall player base here, you have a better chance
of getting the "SMS recovery" to work, than hearing from the general player base. The only perceptive guess I can come up with, so far,
is many of them just may be looking for something different to do.
So all you can do is take that idea, run with it and spend several months developing it to see if it turned out as a bad idea :P

you are not killing any real bosses with 18 in luclin, you can also increase spawn timers for bosses so people can farm more if you wanted

Im just player side and id kill for a new custom server without bots and a 2-3box limit. Sanctuary was amazing and all but they made it such a time sink then killed player trust with a wipe.

Every new server that comes out recently has been a NL clone with only stuff like the hub changed. Dont get me wrong, i liked pop prog but i cant do that shit agian for the 20th time. Cant agree with maze more on this, somthing new needs to happen so theres somthing worth playing.

I do agree with Splose to a point, but I think the reason the PoP servers going viral is simply people creating their own visions
for that era that they (and the players on them) wanted with custom quality of life added to them. But I am convinced this is all
just a "passive phase", just as it was back when people wanted original classic. Lately I've even seen rants from P99 players
wanting Luclin out of them. But that would defeat the whole purpose of Project "1999". Today they hound for Luclin, then what about
tomorrow, they will want a "1999" era server to advance into PoP or GoD ?
Bored players can be very unforgiving, in badgering a server to start expanding away from it's own goals, just for their own selfish
desires. But even though there is various servers from different eras all the way up to OoW, some players who have toons played
through to Luclin or PoP, don't want to start a new toon on another server, just to get to another expansion release, so they may
get frustrated with servers locked in one particular expansion.
Eventually, those "PoP" players will get bored of that same old shit and will be looking for something new (or new content). I'm
no forecast expert, but I have a feeling, that by late (spring or sooner), a lot of players will welcome custom servers.

When you look at that list, more specificly, the Legends, Preferred and "upper" white list,
there is 9 PoP'ish era servers. I had a PoP-LoY server up for a week, without advertising it,
and it never seen one active player on it, so I took it down and decided to go to work on
something else. I added up the "average players" on those 9 PoP servers and it's only 286 total
out of the whole 2000-3000 player base that list sees. Those 9 include classic, legit or slightly
customized for solo content. Personally, I think the only way those types of dedicated era servers
would ever get popular is if we seen a big surge of brand new players in the community. What we
have now is a mill run that is getting bored :P
