One way to think about it:

Verant has been working on the damage formulas ect for over 3 years, and are still changing stuff.

The damage formulas were talked about awhile back. The thing is, we don't have the actual formulas, and doubtfully ever will. EQ has all kinds of wierd things and exceptions in it. A few things have been figured out, but without the rest it just doesn't quite work. I still maintain that we should just workout our own formulas for most things rather than trying to exactly copy what verant is doing.

I agree with Lurker... I think it would be easier (and substantially faster to implement) to make our own formulas for things... all it takes is a little bit of quality knowledge of algebra and some good creativity. I've always felt that VI has made things WAAAYYY more complicated than they need to be, which is why they are CONSTANTLY making changes... Why should EQEMu be just like them?

Just my two cp,

Disagree,
Althought everyone bitches when server goes down for a few hours and they have to deal with real life for once. The changes that are made are good, and they are fine tuned for balance and player enjoyment. The damage formula's are there so someone lvl 1 isnt immune to lvl 5 creatures attacks when their AC is above 30 (as is currently the case with EQemu) the emu is awesome but i personally would like it to more resemble EQ Live.

Just my opinion tho

I disagree. Changes and adjustments are made to slow the game down, or move the carrot a little farther away. 'Your class is soloing well?" NERF! Leveling at a slow crawl? Perfect! Verant's business model depends on you spending the next three years playing their game. If you could level faster, see the whole world, and kill everything in a few months you'd lose interest and go play AO or DAoC or whatever the new game is.

Don't remake EQLive, what a waste of a great emulator.

I say we put the power in the hands of the server op's. Make a battle table, full of variables related to the combat code.. Adjustments to hit, maybe make them class specific, damage bonuses at different levels, examine the combat code, look at the configurable variables, and identify the places where scale factors can be added in to make it harder or easier. Deliver the emu with a normalized database, ie, where we consider it as close to live as possible. Normalized, then it can be tweaked to taste easily. This also has the benefit of keeping people from bitching about the formula's used in the emulator, you give them the oppurtunity to adjust it themselves.. Nothing is hardcoded at that point, it becomes a dynamic combat system..

The base as trumpcard points out should be similiar to EQ Live. Lets be realistic verant is a money hungery company, but any business doesnt stay in business unless they are. Verant still wants the game to be 1)fun for players 2)balanced for players. you CAN start off with no equip in EQ Live and work your way upto lvl 60 getting your own EQUIP on the way, and you can Twink yourself and things will be easier but there will still be challenges. But with the EMu currently you can only twink yourself and slaughter your opponents or you can go naked and be kill in two hits. It is not balanced, hence it is not fun, if you can find formula's that balance the game then i encourage you to do so. And i personally dont mind how long it takes to lvl, cuz when i do i feel that much more satisfaction about getting it, thats what EQ is about. And if you make it so mobs are easy then you will fly through EQ and quickly loose intrested imho.
