- You Swap file is WAY to big this is causing your DDR to be lazy and most likley causing your sql queries (#findspell is an sql query) to first write to your HDD in the swap file, and then execute, causing huge amount of lag. on top of that your upload pipeline is only 45kbs, you have to remember when you connect to your server even when its on your own computer all the information is routed out then back in via some outside server and the eqemu login server. so it looks like this

You > ISP > EQEMU ISP > EQEMU > EQEMU ISP > ISP > Server > ISP > EQEMU ISP > EQEMU (Server status info) > EQEMU ISP > ISP > You.

the data might take a more direct route once you connect to the login server i am not sure really but somthing similar to that... so that 45kbs is trying to output a huge list of information (all the found matching spells) but it can only send out so much information at a time , thus you get a lag spike.

My advice shrink your swap to about 3GB, OR put it on a seperate HDD if you can. and Deframent your harddrive if you are using windows.

I would say the RAM is the problem, throw another 512MB in there and it should help, I have the same issue. The swap file is not used until your RAM is full anyway. Thats why systems running WinXP with 128MB RAM and 120GB HDD's get Virtual Memory low errors all the time, and they have the VM setting too low instead of system managed....
