I've been using .net server & have v lag prob. It never existed using 4.4

I'm about to switch to a colocated linux box on a 150Mb/s connection to see if either of these things help

First of all, i'm on dialup heh...so that doesn't make it any easier but a few months ago it was never this bad, the lag that is. Now I can't even log on. I LD before the character selection screen loads. If I ever make it to character selection, zoning into the world LD's me. So I LD before I ever get to play. Friends of mine on cable say they have the same prob, even when they run their own LAN servers. Not that I don't appreciate the work and effort of the eqemu contributors but lag is just horrible.

Any way to improve this?...just my 2 cents

If it's lagging more near a lot of NPCs, it's either position/hp updates being sent way too often, or issues with functions like CheckCloseAggro (I refuse to typo it as Arrgo).

well its been awhile since i played, but i think this is the problem, i was hanging out in sleepers for the past 2 nights, and whenever i got close to the mob lag would go crazy into red and then hit 0,

i run a P4 1.5ghz, on WinXP and when i was charming mobs and then attacking, i'd get summoned and then lag would go crazy and i'd end up LD
