Default Best place to get started in EQEmu development?

Hi,

I've been following EQEmu development on and off for a few years, and recently my programming skills have reached the point where I feel like I can start making meaningful contributions to the community. I'm currently working on a couple of projects like an S3D extractor/model viewer. (I know there are a few already, but it's mostly just to learn about the formats and 3d graphics programming in general.)

From what I've the community seems to be pretty fragmented and decentralized. The wiki seems to be more of a list of FAQs/setup guides rather than a comprehensive database, and most of the tools and knowledge seem to be located in random forum threads. My guess is a lot of discussion between server admins takes place on IRC and that's where most of the knowledge about EQEmu stuff is "stored".

So my question is, as somewhat of a newbie trying to help out the community, where is the most useful place to put what I find? Should I just start creating new pages on the wiki? Make my own forum threads? I'm not really interested in contributing code to EQEmu itself (I don't think I'm "good enough" for that yet), but I think I could make useful utilities.

TL;DR: I want to write documentation and utilities. Where do I put them so that people can find them?

The wiki really is the best place for stuff you are interested in. It could definitely use better organization and such, but there is quite a bit of info in there already if you know what you are looking for. I think the wiki could use a bit of an over-haul, but not many are interested in helping with it and it is quite a massive project to update documentation and clean it up. I have been waiting for it to be changed over to something more current like MediaWiki instead of using the old Wakka Wiki that we currently use.

Hey this is off topic, but if I can permission I don't mind cleaning the wiki and upgrading it. I have experience doing so and I'm responsible for cleaning the EQ2Emu Wiki.

Just out of curiosity, what would be the steps needed to upgrade it to MediaWiki? Is this a process that's currently underway?

I posted a script a little while back to help convert from wakka wiki to mediawiki, but I don't think Rogean has the time or interest.
