Default Help please

I followed the steps carefully on the Wiki instruction page to setup a Windows server, but when I tried to run start.bat each program came back with the following.

[Error] Failed to connect to database: Error: #2003: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' <0>

What am I doing wrong?

Do you have your eqemu_config.xml set up to properly connect to your database?

If you're running it from a shortcut, make sure the "Start In:" field is your server directory.

Kingly_Krab asks a good question (as always), make sure you have eqemu_config.xml set up correctly and especially the mysql user name and password - capitalization counts. Make sure mysql is running! Program name mysqld.exe.

And turn off all firewalls!

If you are connecting to the MySQL from a different machine, make sure you allow outside connections.

Thank you all, for your help. That was the problem. I had not changed the default "eq" as login name, password, and database name.

That solved the problem, the server is now up and running on my computer.

Now that I have that out of the way, how do I go about making a classic eq server for myself, like project 1999.

One NPC at a time.

Or, you could just modify it into something you would like to play on that isn't a copy of a copy (p1999 is a classic live copy).

Okay, spoke too soon. the EQlaunch window opens but doesn't resolve like the other 3 windows.

Just a flashing cursor like it's waiting for something.

At the top of the window it says
C:\EQ\EQEmuServer\eqlaunch.exe
At the top of the client area of the window it says
Absolutely nothing, just a blinking cursor.

As Scorpius said, one NPC at a time. They probably will never release their database and no other one exist with that much accuracy, well as far as Classic goes.

So zone.exe isn't being started. Once the rest are up, try running zone.exe.

If it fails with a quick open/close window, run it from a command line/DOS prompt so you can see the error or whatever it is saying...
